INDIAN INSPIRED

Lately, i've been SUPER inspired by India.  Fashion.  Style.  Lifestyle.  I've even been thinking about getting a bindi (crazy? maybe just a little.).  I think that the Indian culture is beautiful.  Everything about it is detailed, and every little detail shows character.  And beyond all that, i think their interiors are just amazing.  I love the colors they use and how everything looks so alive and detailed.  I feel like an Indian inspired room definitely gives off a positive feel like no other.  All in all, i just love everything about it.

This room definitely revolves around light colors, with touches and sprouts of bright colors within.  The table is beautiful, and the engraving on the font has a personality of it's own.  I love the simplicity of this room, because it really shows that "Indian inspired" can but put together in all kinds of ways.

This room has to be one of my favorite Indian inspired rooms.  Though there are no bright colors in this rooms, the black and white works SO WELL.  The design on the wall in the background is brilliant, and the pillows add texture to the room.  I've also fallen in love with the dish tray&the fan.

This room brings a whole different feel than the last room.  Again, i love the bright pieces here&there, and the little details which totally add to the room.  The one thing that caught my eye in this room, is the magenta&gold blanket hanging over the side of the bed, it's Indian at it's finest.

This is a little bit of "kid" Indian.  This cat is TOTALLY Indian inspired and would look great in a kid's room.  The colors couldn't be more lovely and nor could the patterns.

This is a kind of Indian inspired i haven't come across yet.  I'd call it "darkened Indian".  Though the room is surrounded by dark walls, the throw&pillows, bring a whole different feel that surprising works with more dark vibe.  I love the Indian pictures on the wall, they're super vintage and add character to the room.

Though, this isn't quite an interior furniture piece, i HAD to add it.  It really is stunning.  From the design of the bench, to the stained glass within it, it is as unique as it gets.  The beads strings that it hangs off of add a whole nother element to the bench.  I LOVE this bench.  I think i might just have to marry it.

WINDOW TREATMENTS ANYONE?

What's a window without a window treatment?  Window treatments like curtains, shutters and sheers arn't just there to add color&character to a room, but also have a purpose.  Anyone have those embarrassing moments when you brake out in dance in the middle of doing a house chore?  I'm sure we all do, and i'm also sure we'd all like our privacy when doing so, which is where window treatments fit into the picture (or should i say window....?).  They're also handy when blocking out sun, or even letting it in.  Windows and window treatments go together like peanut butter and jelly.  Enough said.

Curtains are one of the many types of window treatments.  I personally LOVE the look of curtains, and i think they add a classic touch.  Curtains come in all kinds of patterns, fabrics, designs and more.  They can really add character, feeling and even a personality to a room.  I especially love these Bohemian/Indian style curtains, the detail in the design is just beautiful, and i think they would give off such a calm&peaceful feeling to any room.

Venetian blinds are another type of window treatment, that gives off a little more of a urban feeling to a home.  They can really fit in any room but definitely look great in kitchens (like in the picture!).  They are yet again another great way to block or let in sun, with just a quick twist or pull of a string.  I especially love wooden venetian blinds because i feel like they add a rich yet simple look to a room.

And lastly, blackout blinds.  Blackout blinds definitely have a VERY modern look to them.  They block sun but leave an enjoyable amount through the sheer blinds.  Though, blackout blinds do come in many colors and can completely block out sun with colors like black or grey.  Blackout blinds also possess a technically modern feel because many types are electronically handled and can be put down or up with just a touch of a button.  I remember two summers ago when i was visiting this beautifully large home in the Okanogan, where they had blackout blinds on the patio.  With a flick of a switch the blinds would come down, and also fold back up, hidden above your head.  They were pretty cool.

A little window treatment vocab....

Finial - an ornament at the top, end or corner of an object

Tie Back - a decorative strip of fabric or cord, typically used to open or hold  a curtain off  to the side of a window

Curtain Lining - enforcing or strengthening something

Valence - the combining power of an element

Grommets - an eyelet placed in a hole in a sheet or panel to protect it from being torn

CURTAINS AND SUCH

This first curtain is from IKEA. It is of a dark purple/ brown colour. I used to have this curtain in my room untill my friends ripped it down by accident. This curtains come with tie backs. The tia backs are of a shiny beige and have a burgandy design. These are very simple curtains for a bedroom are small living room.

This red curtain is very elegant and would look gorgeous from the old days.

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE

Attached to an ugly rug?  NO PROBLEMO.  The room you plan on putting it in still has hope to look fabulous, you just have to think a little harder and outside of the box...

Ruched Ruffle Duvet Cover
I think this duvet cover would go great with the ugly rug.  It has just enough texture, to blend with the pattern of the rug, and the navy blue flows well with the "puke green" and brown in the rug.  This duvet cover comes to a total cost of $149.00.

Crystal Lattice Sheet Set
I think this sheet set would be the perfect match for both the bedding and the rug.  Both the bedding and the sheets contain a classic elegant look to them, which works with the rug.  I chose the sheets to be the patterned element of the bunch because the ugly rug already has so much pattern to it, i wouldn't want to add more, and because this is a suttle pattern and the sheets are ultimately INSIDE the duvet, they will be hidden most of the time.  Total cost of the sheets is $48.

PB Organic 400-Thread-Count Bed Skirt
As far as the bed skirt, i think i would just stick to a simple, clean cut, white skirt, like this.  Just to make sure it doesn't detract attention from the rest of the room.  I definitely like the straight&simple design of this bed skirt, bed skirts with frills or ruffles or just any kind of pouffyness can just look totally tacky.  This bed skirt sells for about $79.

Batik Pillow
I think this pillow would be perfect for the bed set chosen.  I love the look of this pillow and love the intricate YET subtle pattern. This pillow cost a total of $48.

Lucid Outlines Pillow
This pillow fits PERFECT with the duvet cover and the ugly rug.  It even has a little bit of green in there, to catch your eye from all the dark grey&blue tones used.  This pillow retails for $118 (a little pricy for a pillow, i'd say...).

And last but not least, the throw.  Love this plaid throw, and i even like the color.  Again, it's classic and meshes well with the rest of the room.  It sells for $98.

And all together, the total price rounds up to $540.  So maybe a little pricey for just a bed bundle BUT it is a very classy bed bundle.  Worth it?  I THINK YES!

MICRO

I thinks lamps are a super important aspect in a room.  There great for nights, when a full lit room is too bright, or mornings, when your not ready for the brightness just yet.  I think lamps are one of those objects in a room that can be fun&have a lot of personality.  Lamps are even sometimes the "inspiration piece" when designing a room.  Lamps can fit almost all rooms in a home, from bedrooms to living rooms, and offices to hallways.  The benefit of using a lamp in design is that lamps add light to a room, but unlike most lights in ceilings, lamps also add character, color, pattern, texture, etc.

Right here, is the coolest DIY lamp i have ever seen!  And totally simple to make too.  All you have to do is find an old book with a nice cover, cut the pages to fit the bulb, place the bulb into the book with a rubber band and THERE YOU HAVE IT!  A totally handcrafted "book lamp".  Though this may be a fire hazard...?  I think this would look great sitting beside other little nick nacks on some kind of armoir or bed side table, blending right in, and shinning  light when you least expect it!

This candle holder is meant to be super old&vintage looking, a look a really love.  I think it could fit nicely in a living room next to a couple framed pictures or even just placed in a hallway.

I absolutely ADORE this.  It's not only the cutest thing i've ever seen, but it also doubles a as candle holder!  2 in 1 PEOPLE!  This could really fit anywhere in a home, whether it's a bathroom, a living room or even a kids room, it's super versatile to where it can be put.  It's also even a little "African" looking, and would look amazing in a home with an organic&plant based feel.

I just love the patterns on these candle bowls.  I think that theyare super outgoing, but can blend well with each other.  Therefor, it would be great to stock up on a few of these holders and place them side by side or around each other.

MICRO-DESIGN

This class our job is to focus on a DIY lamps, I was searching on google and came across the House&Home website, I found a video on the website about how to make these really funky light fixtures that hang from the ceiling. They just used string, and glue, and wrapped the gluey string around a balloon, when it dried they popped the balloon. I love these and I think they are really funky (:

Cute eh? & totally easy to make.
Some string, and some glue, water and a balloon. EASY PEASY.
Using lamps and light fixtures in a space are critical to finishing a room. Unless you have massive windows and light 24/hours a day... then you definitely need a light fixture. Light fixtures can also add an element of detail to a space, I have seen some pretty funky lamps that really become a focal point of a room.
Gypsy Chandelier - Large
I am IN LOVE with this chandelier.
THE COLOUR! THE SHAPE!
So funky, so unique. AHH. I'm totally diggin' it(:

One-Lump-Or-Two Base
WHOAAA! My grandma would love this.
I feel like I should get her this for christmas...
Maybe I could make it. Totally something she would have
in her house. Too great;)

 CANDLE HOLDERS ANYONE?!
YUMMMM. I love candles. One time I bought this lemon mint scented candle at some flea market. And it was the best smelling candle I have smelt in MY life. Totally refreshing. Just too great. I think candles are nice in a house, they are super girly.. I can't see a guy having candles in his "man-cave," But you never know... maybe. Haha.  Candles are nice when your having a bubble bath, so relaxing. Or maybe date night, so scandalous. Totally great for setting a mood. BUT although the actual candle is nice. The candle holder is just as important. They, like a lamp can be a cool focal point or added element in a room:)

Springing Sprigs Candelabra
